China Nerin wins the Engineering Design Contract for Phase II of SICOMINES DRC Concentrator Project

June 8th, China Nerin won the bid of the engineering design contract for Phase II of SICOMINES DRC Concentrator Project.

In 2012, the engineering design contract for Phase I of SICOMINES DRC Concentrator Project was awarded to China Nerin. In 2014, the construction drawings were completed. In February 2015, Phase I of the project was smoothly completed and put into production and successfully reached the design capacity, that is, 83 kt/a cathode copper and 1.8 kt/a cobalt metal (as cobalt hydroxide) from 4,550 kt/a ore. Shortly after that, Phase I of the project became a model project of cooperation between China and D. R. Congo in central Africa and was visited by DRC President Joseph Kabila and other Chinese and DCR national leaders. The project is highly influential among the copper-cobalt mine projects with hydrometallurgical process which China Nerin has undertaken in central Africa. It expands the brand influence of China Nerin in central Africa.

Following the success of Phase I, China Nerin made persistent efforts and won the concentrator design contract for Phase II of the project.

With the expansion in Phase II, the capacity of the project will be 250 kt/a cathode copper and 4.5 kt/a cobalt metal (as crude cobalt hydroxide) from 9,100 kt/a ore, making it a super large copper-cobalt mine with hydrometallurgical process.

The signing of this contract has laid a solid foundation for China Nerin to further consolidate and expand its share in the African market.
